BATS

Another academic year has passed and BU is well into Summer 1. This means it is time to play!

This weekend: back up to Sargent Camp in NH to trap bats.

Enjoy...

We double up two harp traps. The door is closed tight to the trap but you get the point... Why two traps? Well, the bats fly at such high speeds that they will go right through the first trap 1/2 of the time so the next trap will get them. It doesn't hurt them- they just slide right down into the bag.

Blandings Turtles

Today we braved the wind, rain and cold to radio track and capture Blanding's Turtles in Concord, MA. We radio tracked 3 important females (over 20 years old!) and trapped a male. Also in the traps were painted turtles and a black crappy! To learn more about BUTUs in Massachusetts go to http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/nhesp/blandingscmp606.pdf

And... please support The Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program (NHESP) of the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife!!
